The story of Immaculate Conception Church begins with one man – famous, religious and devout Washington Irving.
When the American author died in 1859, many friends from Christ Episcopal Church in Tarrytown, New York wanted to make a special memorial for their beloved trustee. They could think of nothing better than a church. In 1865, they built a beautiful, gothic church as a tribute to this Christian man.
Almost 100 years later, the growing Italian-American community and Church of Immaculate Conception needed a bigger church for their people. Due to God’s providential design, they were able to purchase St. Mark’s Church in 1956 and restore it in a Roman Catholic tradition.
During the 1990’s, the entire interior and exterior of Immaculate Conception Church was completely restored. The Church was renovated again in 2009, bringing it to its outstanding beauty today.
